Frequently Asked Questions

We’re sure you have many questions about teaching or relocating to work in China. Below we’ve provided some of the key questions that may help you make the move.

AM I ELIGIBLE TO APPLY?

Each job at our schools have specific requirements, but generally we require applicants to have a BA degree or above, a TEFL qualification and some teaching experience. You can see each of the school requirements on our: Job Board page.

WHAT IS A TEFL QUALIFICATION?

TEFL refers to Teaching English as a Foreign Language: programs in countries where English is not the primary language. Most schools in China require you hold at least 120hrs TEFL Certificate. HOW MUCH DO YOU CHARGE?

Raising Ltd does not charge you for applying for a job in China. We only get paid after we find you a job and directly from the school. However, you should be aware that there are costs associated with visa application and relocation. In most cases you will be reimbursed these costs as stipulated in your contract.

ARE THERE ANY OTHER COSTS?

All our schools require a Work Visa. Obtaining a visa can cost as much as £450 if you do it yourself and subject to the schools contract conditions you should be reimbursed after the 1st year contract. WHAT ABOUT INSURANCE OR MEDICAL?

All our schools provide medical Insurance, the extent of which will be stipulated in your contract, but will usually cover the basic inpatient and outpatient costs. If you have any special medical conditions you may want to consider getting a separate internationally recognized insurance policy as an extra cover. You will definitely be required to get Travel Insurance before flying.

WHAT HAPPENS ONCE AN APPLICATION HAS BEEN ACCEPTED?

Once an application has been accepted and we have all your documents, we'll organise a video interview with the School (employer) you have selected. Prior to the interview we will send you some guidance on what to expect and we will be present throughout the interview, introducing you to the school interviewer and to assist with any questions. More often than not the school may request a Second Interview. Again we will moderate and guide you through it.

WHAT HAPPENS AFTER THE INTERVIEW?

It usually takes 3-5 days before we know if you have been successful. IF the school accepts you, then we will start the visa process and send you the contract for signing. This process could take about 1 to 2 months, but once complete you’re on a flight to China.

DON’T worry if the interview is not successful, we can try one or more of the other schools.

WILL I GET HELP ONCE I ARRIVE IN CHINA AND WHERE WILL I LIVE?

Once you have signed a contract with the school and jumped on a flight to China, you’ll be in good hands. A school representative will meet you at the airport and take you to either accommodation provided by the school or to a hotel. You will later have a choice of finding your own place (fully assisted) or staying in the schools accommodation. This will be clearly outlined in your contract.

Remember, you’re not alone! There are many other Foreign Teachers at these schools, who would be more than happy to give you tips and show you around.
